Jonathan Varela: The Tico who will represent Costa Rica at the CrossFit Games
Athlete, coach, and family man, Jonathan Varela will be the only Costa Rican to represent the country at the CrossFit Games that will take place from August, 3 to 7, in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.
This is the second time Costa Rica participates in this great event since the first time in 2019 when William Sánchez and Marisol Umaña represented the country.
Varela began his path as an athlete in this discipline approximately 9 years ago when he was still living in Costa Rica and started learning about CrossFit.
Previous to this he got married and moved to the United States with his wife, where he realized the popularity of CrossFit, which he had been practicing for years.
He found a gym near his house where there was CrossFit training and applied for a job (because he was a personal trainer in Costa Rica) they asked him to have the Crossfit L1 title for which he immediately went to do the procedures, obtained the certification and since then he has dedicated much of his time to this discipline.
Two years ago, the athlete full fielded one of his biggest dreams; to open his own gym, called “Kurafit”, where he teaches personal and group classes.
The biggest goal for Varela was to qualify for the CrossFit Games, but the most important thing for him was the process of getting there. With each competition, he gave everything and more. After great perseverance, he managed to enter the top 10 in the 40-44 category.
Varela told us that this feels unreal especially when he saw the leaderboard on Sunday of the semifinals; where he positioned #11 and, the following Monday he was ranked #10.
"I feel great fulfillment to represent my country, enjoy every second, and give everything to leave Costa Rica very proud" Jonathan shared with us.
On behalf of the Doer Fitness team, we want to congratulate Jonathan for qualifying for the CrossFit Game!
Felicidades a Jonathan por su clasificación y mis mejores deseos de éxito para todo lo que viene.
