Costa Rica crowned champion of Central American athletics 

The National Athletics Team swept everything away in the Central American Championship, which took place in Managua, Nicaragua.

Costa Rica was represented by 60 great athletes, 32 in the sub-18 category and 28 in the sub-20 category.

The Ticos added a total of 83 medals, 29 gold, 32 silver and 22 bronze, becoming the absolute champions of both categories. El Salvador took second place with 30 medals followed by Guatemala with the same amount.



The athletes did not have government aid and had several economic limitations when traveling, nevertheless, this was not an impediment to leaving a good impression of the country and breaking new records.

According to information shared by the newspaper La Nación, the walker, Sharon Herrea, won gold in the 10,000-meter dash with a record time of 48:40:66 minutes, thus setting a new Central American record in the sub-category. 20, because prior to this it belonged to Esmeralda Morales with 50:41:47 since 2016.

Likewise, Paulo de Jesús Gómez González, broke the record in the 3000 m obstacle course, obtaining a time of 9:02:03. The previous mark was held by Nicaraguan Erick Rodríguez for 13 consecutive years with 9:23:14.
